Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
Cycle through quiet towns, down back roads and along a relatively traffic-free Highway 19, which given the mountain scenery and fresh-air setting shapes up as a long-distance bike route that’s almost the equal of the famed Icefield Parkway between Banff and Jasper. Stubby wheeled mountain bikes are essential when bombing down dirt forestry roads or down the trails of Rumble Mountain near Port Alice. The latter is the site of the annual Rumblefest Mountain Bike race.
