Forests are truly rooted in the communities of Vancouver Island

The designation of Forest Capital of British Columbia has been awarded to the Regional District of Mount Waddington for 2010. The Regional District of Mount Waddington will use this distinction to showcase and celebrate the close relationship this region has long had with its forests for both livelihood and well‐being.

The Forest Capital of British Columbia program is a unique BC tradition that showcases the province’s forests. Each year, the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals selects one community to be the Forest Capital of BC. It recognizes and celebrates the valuable role forests play in the economic and environmental health of our province and our communities and the winning community carries the title for a full year.

Forests are truly rooted in the communities of Vancouver Island North.

An action-packed calendar of events and activities, both fun and educational, will take place throughout the year, with opportunities for all of the communities within the region to participate. Watch for regular articles and important dates being announced in the North Island Gazette and visit this site regularly to keep up to date on special dates, announcements and activities.

We thank all organizations, businesses, local governments, First Nations and local children who supported our successful application. We received over 100 letters of support, reflecting genuine local passion for our forest heritage and future even in these challenging times.

Thank you also to the many organizations and businesses that have continued to support the Forest Capital of BC events with donations of time, material and funding. Without you, these community events would not be possible.
